Saturday night spent on an old style Rice barge on the Chao Praya – what a perfect evening.
Watched over by a solicitous host, attended by a conscientious crew of male Waiters and female Musician/Dancers, and with good Thai food, this is a perfect way to spend an evening in Bangkok.
The “Rice Barge” is a wonderful setting, old and quite intimate, yet offering a sufficient outlook onto the river to take in the night-time sights. The layout on the boat is designed to focus the atmosphere for your table yet allow room for the service to be unobtrusive. The entertainment is a troupe of Ladies in traditional costumes that play and dance throughout the cruise, which lasts about 2 hours. During the cruise the host also explains points of interest, coming round the tables to do so, but is prepared to leave you mostly alone (apart from the occasional enquiry about your service, food, etc.) if he knows you are resident in Bangkok.
Loy Nava is one of the sponsors from the Canadian Ball last year, and Trish and I bid on and won the package that contained their donation to the Club – a Romantic Dinner cruise for 2 on the river, with a bottle of wine and welcome and “digestif” drinks.
We would recommend this cruise to anyone . . . .
So COME ON DOWN!
