Thai King’s 60th anniversary Barges

The King of Thailand is the world’s longest reigning Monarch at this time. This year he is celebrating 60 years on the throne. In honour of this event there was a royal barge procession on the Chao Praya river in Bangkok.

We joined the masses to celebrate this event. Note that everyone is in yellow. This is the King’s colour relating to his day of birth.

Note also that it rained at one point, before the procession started.

We had a great day (even with the rain, which just seemed to draw the crowd closer together) amongst these very nice and friendly / smiling people. Everyone was really ahappy, and the people around us were offering to share their picnics and snacks.

The barges were terrific, of course.

52 in all, over a period of about 1 hour.
