the dresden dolls concert

Saturday night was a Panic! At the Disco concert, with The Dresden Dolls as the opening act. I went and saw it with my friend Yevgeny, who runs the YListen radio show early Sunday mornings. He’s got a good review of the show up on his website, so I’ll just post these pics I managed to grab. They are the only two that were somewhat clear…

The Dresden Dolls Concert at the Molson Amphitheatre

I will say though, as a venue, I really dislike the Molson Amphitheatre. It’s a little too commercial, a little too corporate, and as a result you feel like a criminal walking around in there no matter what. Security is on you in a second if they see a slightly higher than average grade camera, a purse that’s maybe a little too big, etc. It’s okay though – we beat the system. We snuck into the wristband-only area, without wristbands, to get a better view. Hah! We were only there for The Dresden Dolls anyway. In fact, neither of us had ever heard of Panic! At the Disco, and thought that was just the name of the show The Dresden Dolls were putting on. Ah well… again, read Yevgeny’s entry about it.

heh, i was affected by that concert, though i was nowhere near it. i was waiting for the northbound bathurst streetcar at king (where i had been having dinner with friends). waited ages, and one finally shows up, packed to the gills with young people. i thought i’d wait for the next one, when a girl on board the streetcar opens the window, leans out and tells me that a concert had just finished and this was the first of 3 or 4 streetcars packed full of concert-goers. i asked ‘what concert?’ and she said ‘panic! at the disco.’ that was the very first time i’d heard that name.

i ended up walking to spadina and catching the spadina streetcar instead.

Yeh, I knew the tour was a support for Panic! at the Disco but I didn’t realise that the venues were gonna be soo big. Jesus, I can imagine their sound and their intimacy kinda disappears in that sort of setting.

I think Amanda did a solo set at the Bloor Cinema in Toronto as well didn’t she?

I can’t wait to see them at Reading despite them being in a huge tent with shitty sound. xx

Amanda did some sort of “presents” show at the Bloor Cinema. I thought it was a presentation of films or something, we only read about it after we got home much later that night.

Reading, eh? My parents have a house near there, though they are currently residing in Bangkok.
